Assist Developmental Playgroup Staff For Children While...
Identifying the information Friday October 30, 2015, I was able to assist Developmental Playgroup staff in caring for children while their parents attended a weekly Health Education and Literacy (HEAL) information session/class. There were a number of seven children present. Two children under the age of one, three children who were one and a half years of age, two children who were two and half years old, and an older child around the age of five. To care for the seven children, there were three staff members and a student intern (me). Purpose of the session Children who participate in Developmental Playgroup on Fridays have parents who are attending a group in order to become acquainted with health and literacy. For example, parent(s) who are Spanish-speaking may not fully understand documents written in English in a hospital setting, so the class aims to assist a parent who has a lower level of literacy or the parent(s) could use English as their second language. While parents are attending their class, children who attend Developmental Playgroup are provided a stimulating and safe environment to explore concepts that have not been introduced to them, interact with other children, and have the opportunity to expand on their developmental skill-building.
